Facebook is now giving its users an opportunity to control what politics-related advertisements they wish to see.
According to an op-ed piece penned by Mark Zuckerberg and published in USA Today, this move gives the American segment of Facebook users the democratic freedom to choose. The social media platform will still encourage them to vote in the 2020 presidential election.
Facebook has been planning to introduce the ad-controlling feature for months after declaring that the social media platform itself would not run fact-checks on the political ads before allowing them to show up on its site. Therefore, the Facebook audience in the U.S. will carry some sort of personal responsibility for this type of content and decide which they would like to shut off.
