Not every day that a feat such as the first-ever just achieved. We have accomplished landing on an asteroid and collected a sample. This sample is now back on the mother ship after sending a smaller craft. It landed on the asteroid used one of its arms and collected a sample and returned safely back. In one fell swoop, it has advanced our capabilities both scientifically and mechanically and opens the path for further discoveries. The sample will eventually return to earth where the real work of analysis begins. It is of course another stepping stone to our understanding of them and our potential to possibly mine them.
Crucially it may help us eventually to understand how we deflect them if one is on a collision course with us.
