Google has finally axed an app that contributed to the global anti-China moods. “Remove China Apps” was designed to scan your device, detect any software developed in China, and send you a “warning” so you could remove them.
The philosophy behind that app was based on conspiracy theories about Chinese global espionage, which have grown stronger after the COVID-19 pandemic. “Remove China Apps,” created by an India-based OneTouch AppLabs developer, received wide public acclaim in India itself following the May launch. It has been promoted by Indian celebrities and led the list of the most popular apps list in that country.
By the time Google eliminated “Remove China Apps”, it had been downloaded almost 5 million times, reports TechCrunch.
